Auto Repair & Maintenance - How to change disc brake pads

Good afternoon, my name is Tom Brintzenhofe, certified master technician, from Reading, Pennsylvania, and today, I'm going to show you how to change front brake pads.The first thing you want to do, is take your tire off, which I've already taken the liberty to, to save some time. Jack the vehicle up, make sure it's nice and secure. Find your bolts securing your caliper to your bracket here, go ahead and take them up. I've already loosened them up, just to save some time. Here we go, we'll get these out of the way. You don't have to fully take these all the way out. I'll show you a little shortcut here. Once you get that bottom one out, you take your caliper, and you flip it straight up, like this. You've got to keep one hand on it. Take your brake pads out, put your new ones here. You'll notice I'm always keeping one hand on that brake caliper, so it doesn't come down and get your hand, while you're in here working. Once you get them all the way in here, you want to take your old brake pad, stick it in there. Get your little handy tool here, that you can pick up at any parts store. They're under ten bucks. You stop in to get your brake pads, that you've got to get anyway. Just grab this tool on your way out, it makes your life a lot easier. Slide that in there. You have to tighten it down, and push them two pistons back in, push the brake fluid back up in your master cylinder. Once you get that all the way pushed in, it will stop. Take your tool out, your old brake pad, set it aside. Slide your caliper back down over your brake pads, put your bolts back in it, tighten everything down, and you're good to go.
