-Let's talk about another Texan, this one running for president.
And that's Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
We know where he stands on this issue.
Defunding Planned Parenthood is a top priority for him.
Right now he's neck-and-neck with Donald Trump in Iowa.
Is there a contingency plan to deal with a President
Cruz or any president who promises
to defund Planned Parenthood?
WENDY DAVIS: I have greater faith
in the American people than that.
I don't believe we're going to need that contingency plan.
But I will tell you-- I hope that people
are paying attention to, as I said before,
the consequences of that kind of rhetoric.
It's rhetoric that's aimed at garnering votes.
And sadly, it shows that people like Ted Cruz
have absolutely no regard for the health impacts
that are created by so many people
across this country, when he articulates positions
like that.
That's not the kind of leader that we
want in the Oval Office.
And I do believe that the American people are
going to reject that kind of activity.
-What do you make of Donald Trump?
Years ago-- and Ted Cruz is pulling up these videos
now in a new ad.
He's reminding voters that Donald Trump
was once pro-choice.
Now, Donald Trump, of course, is staunchly
saying that he is pro-life.
What are your thoughts on Donald Trump?
WENDY DAVIS: You know, it's sad that pro-choice
has become a calling card in the Republican Party--
that those who are supportive of choice are somehow demonized.
Obviously, Donald Trump has changed his tune about that,
in the context of this particular presidential
contest.
But the reality is that while that
may play in the Republican primary,
and that may be an important way to garner
that most extreme Republican vote that they're
out there competing for.
In the general election, that will be something--
I believe-- that harms these candidates.
Because as that poll indicated, the vast majority of Americans
support abortion access.
They want to see it remain safe and legal in this country.
And they will reject a candidate that stands so staunchly,
not only against abortion, but against incredibly
valuable health organizations, like Planned Parenthood, that
are providing such vital care for hundreds of thousands
of women in this country.
