My name is Andrew Farrow. I’ve lived in my borough for roughly about 7 or 8 years
now. Primarily for me being a volunteer is about helping people as well. It’s just
a way of getting out and meeting more people and getting people out and about on day trips.
There’s a lot of regeneration programmes going on, which makes the borough look brighter
in appearance. And also apart from the usual road works which happens everywhere in London.
It’s generally appearing a lot brighter. There’s a lot more green coverage in the
area. A lot more trees, that sort of thing. So it’s getting better. There’s a lot
of east London that’s derelict and it needs sprucing up. It needs a little bit of love
and attention so with the Olympics coming it should be good from that point of view.
It’s tended to be more about north London normally, so east London getting the attention
should be a good thing really for them. Hopefully if the money is right. I don’t
work for a corporate company, so I can’t pay those sort of prices if it’s going to
be too expensive. But if it’s going to be reasonably priced, I want to. If I can, I’ll
tend to go for more the rowing, archery, the indoor cycling – those sort of events.
Taking part- I’m more of a kind of outdoor walking, I like archery as well... climbing,
mountaineering, that sort of stuff. But watching- the main thing for me is rugby. I love my
rugby. Watching rugby, swimming on TV... cycling. I’m not sure about within my borough. I
guess family-wise would be my brother. He’s recently lost his sight and he’s coping
with it fairly well- compared to other people. It’s quite a good feat. He’s coping with
it fairly well. He’s getting back on the bike so to speak. So from a family point of
view I’d say my brother definitely. But apart from that I tend to go for people like
Ranulph Fiennes who’s an explorer. And Sir David Attenborough. After the Olympics has
happened, I’m hoping that the success of the Olympics or what they promise for the
borough will continue. So the Olympic stadium, for example, won’t be left just to rot so
to speak. It’ll get used within the community and hopefully taking the borough forward in
the sense of bringing the community together... those sort of things.
