Welcome to a new episode of YOUnique tv. Today i'm here at Ultimate Trends, my local sneakerstore in Mol, Belgium.
This is my first interview so let's get into it!
Introduce yourself and say who you are and what you do.
I'm Brecht, the store manager at Ultimate Trends.
This is our third year, i try to give everything its place, make sure everything is as it should be. So hit it up.
How did you end up in the streetwear world?
I've always been interested in sneakers and ended up in an outlet of this store
which was located in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Eventually we moved to Mol. We tried to make it work and this is what became of it. I'm satisfied with the outcome.
When did the store open?
3 years ago, in March 2010
What brands do you sell at the moment?
WESC, Native Youth, Ceizer, Supremebeing, a pretty cool brand in the collection. Some Adidas, here and there.
Regarding shoes we have: Nike, Puma, uhm let me think.
- A lot Yea, really a lot. - A lot of brands.
Also a lot of accessories like Komono and those type of things. Small and upcoming brands.
-What are the most recent brands that you have?
The most recent things are Native Youth. Ceizer we already had but it's booming right now.
That's a very recent brand that we have.
And for the rest Lowie speakers. That's about it.
-Are there any new brands that will be available soon or brands that you really want to get?
I'm aiming for Daily Paper. I think it's really cool.
I'm checking out the streetwear scene to see what's available.
But I can't give everything away just yet.
-Nowadays a lot of shops sell their own brand like their own t-shirts and so on.
-Are there any plans for that in the future?
There are plans for it.
But eventually i like to concentrate on brands that are a bit hyped
As support to the shop you could maybe do Crewnecks, a hat or T-shirt.
So that your brand is seen in the streets.
But a real brand from the store...
...I'm not really for it.
It should remain affordable
But a lot of shops increase the prices of their own brand
I'm not down with that.
-What brand currently brings out the freshest gear?
-And what brand do you look up to?
There's so much man. It's so difficult.
There's such a wide variety of brands, clothing and shoes.
Definitely in the sneaker scene. It renews so fast.
There's not really one that sticks out
but i really like Native Youth with their prints and snits.
Supremebeing is very cool. Back on the rise. They were in a dip but the 2014 collection is looking really cool.
Keep an eye on that.
Regarding shoes, power of the swoosh of course: Nike.
Underrated, over-hated: Puma But I still think it's cool.
A bit of Adidas here and there. There's too much to say them all.
-What do you think of the streetwear scene in Mol and the bigger picture in Belgium?
I find it very renewing and cool.
But it disappoints me that people can't distance themselves from a certain hype.
Hypes are cool, but differentiate within the hype.
A stupid example: Air Max.
Very cool, everybody wears them.
But then i ask myself if it's necessary that they all go for the same model.
You can differentiate by going for another model.
It's sometimes sad that the really nice shoes are overlooked.
They only have an eye for that one model, when there are actually a lot of nice shoes.
But then they can't objectively say: ''ok I like that shoe too''
''Imma rock that''
Definitely here in Mol.
It's a cool town, cool people. They're feeling it, they want it, and they do it.
The only thing I think is sad, step away from the hype.
Distance yourself. Find your own style within the clothing. And do what you want.
That's eventually what it's about
-In the beginning the focus was on sneakers but through the years it has switched to the total package with clothing and accessories.
-Like bags from Herschel and bracelets and so on.
-Do you still see yourself as a sneaker store or as an all round street wear store?
If you look at our wall, we're still a sneaker store. Shoes are the main thing.
But i find it important that you can come here and find the total package in one store.
Definitely some accessories as they tend to make the outfit a whole.
Add a hat, a bag. Everything at once. Nowadays you have to do that.
Nowadays you have to do that.
Think of your look, a concept..
I think we can still be called a sneaker store/concept store.
-Are there any sick releases in the near future?
There will be some new collections. The new Supremebeing for example
Really. People. Check that sh*t. It's off the hook.
The new Native Youth that came in is really cool.
Icon Brand. Keep an eye on that. Simple but correctly priced accessories.
-Native Youth Native Youth, really dope sh*t.
And for the rest, it keeps on coming.
-What are your favorite items in the store right now?
Definitely the new Puma OG Trinomic. Really dope.
I think it took 20-21 years before it got rereleased.
-Real OG OG, a really cool shoe.
Then the Roshe Run Sneakerboot, a hiker. Super cool on feet.
I always like a clean shoe with a flashy accent.
I'd say everybody come get 'em and rock 'em
-And from the two, if you had to choose one?
If i had to choose, I'd have to go for the Roshe Run
Definitely with winter coming up. -The ideal shoe Yup the ideal shoe definitely.
This is my shout out to Mol.
Keep rocking the sneakers. Keep supporting us.
We've been doing it for 3 years. Thanks a lot!
It can always be better. Keep renewing. Differentiate yourself from the rest.
Rock the sneakers!
-Ok, thank you -Thanks for watching and see you next time!
