Interleukin blockers are a class of drugs that are commonly used to treat inflammatory-related
disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. Some medications are
also used to prevent organ rejection in transplant patients. Interleukin blockers work by reducing
the activity of the body's immune system. Interleukin blockers share a few common side
effects such as upper airway infections, headache, and upset stomach. Some examples of medications
in this class are Kineret, also known as anakinra, and Actemra, also known as tocilizumab. Interleukin
blockers share a few common serious side effects. These medications may lower the ability of
the immune system to fight infections. Report any sign of an infection such as a fever,
cough, or flu-like symptoms. Interleukin blockers can also reactivate infections including tuberculosis,
so be sure to tell your doctor if you've had this or any other chronic infection in the
past. You will also want to consult with your doctor about taking live vaccines, as there
are warnings against live vaccines with many of these medications. It is also a good idea
to ask questions about your medication if you are unsure or if you experience something
out of the ordinary. Take this medication only as directed. For more information, download
