the fashion school store is here to represent the students of the fashion school through
the eclectic merchandise and the operations of the store itself. We're using it as a tool
to learn merchandising tactics, management tactics, retail operation ideas as well as
how to sell products and how to relate to a customer.
This store is pretty unique for the US, I think. There are a number of other fashion
school stores but I don't think any of them are focused on actual, original creation.
A lot of them have a theme of, say, sustainability or, um, local products for their particular
school.
The merchandise assortment in the store is gonna be revolving. It has work from professors,
from students, uh, purchased product, uh, as well as reflection of the pride we feel
for the fashion school through our logo merchandise.
And we also have some artwork from students, all kinds of different things. The textile
lab has been a big part of this and our textile lab is about our custom printing business
so a lot of the products in the, um, in the store have custom printing. For instance,
there's a lining that's the school map. We have, um, coats that have come from a special
project that we did that have original designs on them with digitally engineered prints so
lots of interesting things here that are really quite creative and different from the rest
of the market.
Dr. Stanforth and Director Campbell presented the idea to us, uh, last fall that we had
acquired a space and the idea was there and there was a public interest so they sought
out a manager, student managers as well as an army of volunteers to work on product,
to work on the assortment of the store, to work on building the store itself, operating
the store. My goal in life is to be an entrepreneur so this experience has been, uh, invaluable
to me and to my education, learning from the faculty at the school and learning from Dr.
Stanforth directly has inspired me to persue my eventual dream of opening my own store
one day and the lessons I learned through this opening and continue to learn are completely
invaluable.
