I see children with diabetes. I see children with thyroid disorders. I see children with
pituitary disorders. I see children with any growth problems or any problems with puberty.
I try to work really hard with the families to really explain each of the disease processes
that I’m seeing. For instance, with growth disorders, I try to explain to the families
— what are the causes of short stature? And, how are we going to evaluate for each
of these causes. And, if we find a problem, what can we do from there? And, I think that
really helps families to navigate the process.
I really want to make sure that no matter what age the patient that they have an understanding
of what’s going on with their own body — even if it’s in very, very basic terms — so
that they, no matter what age, can be part of the decision-making process with us.
