Today, we’re going to be talking about how to find a vector when we’re given two points.
In this particular example, we’ve been given two points, the point R at (1,2) and the point
S at (3,5). So it’s really important to remember that
when we’re finding a vector from two points, vectors indicate direction. So the vector
that goes from the point R to the point S in this direction is very different than the
vector SR which starts at the point S and goes to the point R. If we want to visualize
this, if we plotted our two points in an x,y coordinate system, we’d have the point R
at (1,2) and the point S at (3,5). Remember that vectors are directional so the
vector from R to S is one direction and the vector SR is the other direction. So we just
have to keep in mind, direction. In this particular case, we’ve been asked to find this first
vector R to S. So when that’s the case, we need to essentially subtract the point
R from the point S. And we denote vectors with this angle brackets like this (
