Hi, I'm Larry Nixon. This is Day Three at the Bassmaster Classic here in Shreveport, Louisiana.
And let me tell you, it's one of the most exciting things you'll ever do in fishing.
We've got two guys out there, Davy Hite and David Walker, that are
still in this thing right now, and
hopefully one of these guys can pull it off. You know, they're great fishermen.
They're both teammates of mine here at Evinrude. The thing about the Red River is , it changes every year.
A lot of dirty water comes into it.
It goes up, it goes down, and it's never the same place that I've been to.
Never. It changes every time .
If i was in the tournament, i would probably be locking down, simply to try
to get rid of some of the traffic, because when the river's high and muddy like it is right now,
there's only so many clear-water areas to fish on the river. The rest of it gets totally trashed.
I do not like locks. I hate locks.
I've fished B.A.S.S. for twenty-eight years,
and I've made twenty-five Bassmaster classics .
I would've made number twenty-six, had it not been for a lock master.
You know, fishing culture is different all over the United States,
and when you want to get to the peak of it,
you know, you can't beat Shreveport , Louisiana, Hot Springs, Arkansas
Guntersville, Alabama,
but over there, it's nothing like it is here.
Most every father fishes in Louisiana
and south Arkansas and Texas.
This circle down here in this part of the United States,
and this is just a huge event for them
because they can all come here for two or three days, take a vacation,
and it's just a place to have a big Classic.
Well, I think it's going to be a big weigh-in.
We had a good, sunny day, and if the guys have enough time in the afternoon,
and that's the main thing, fish always start biting better after you have sunshine after a cold night
later in the day, so whoever's got the later flights are going to probably have a better chance
of catching a big string.
I would hate to bet against one of the Lane boys. They're first and fourth, I think.
They're both extremely good shallow-water fishermen , and I know how they fish.
They fish a lot of Florida stuff. They fish a lot of Alabama stuff. And the Red River's perfect for them. Perfect.
If I had to pull my wallet out and bet all my money on one, somebody right now, it'd be one of them two.
