Well, welcome to the University of Cumbria Business School. We offer some very exciting,
contemporary programmes at the undergraduate level and postgraduate level.
We're very keen on students learning skills which will benefit them when they move into the workplace.
As well as having the taught theory within the lectures,
we also focus on the practical skills, so it helps students kind of develop
their skills and be able to apply them to the real life context.
The assessments are very much based on what you will face in the real working life.
Students, by the end of their degree, feel quite confident going into organisations and
actually putting forward ideas, coming up with proposals, and
actually making real life changes in organisations.
We also have the opportunity to take up placements
in the region, in north Lancashire and Cumbria, and also international companies.
The class sizes are relatively small for a university. It's really good because it's
key for the student experience. There's a lot more one-to-one tuition that can be given.
Lecturers become very familiar with students' strengths, students' weaknesses,
areas students wish to develop.
The Carlisle Business Interaction Centre is
based in Paternoster Row in Carlisle. There'll be opportunities to explore your business plan
and the practicality of your business proposal with experienced businesses or with academics.
The University of Cumbria experience has been really fantastic.
I studied a business management degree here and specialised in HR.
Within your degree, they will provide you with the opportunity
to develop the skills that you'll need for after university.
You're not just sat in a lecture theatre learning X theory and Y theory,
you're learning about how things work in the real world. It's been a real breath of fresh air.
I was quite nervous about coming to university and having that close relationship
with the tutors has really helped me develop and, kind of, grow in confidence academically
and personally. It's really helped me to get a job after university and progress my career,
which is the reason why I came here.
Predominantly, you'll be based in Lancaster, which is the home of the Business School.
Lancaster is a really great place to live.
It's got all of the facilities that you would find in a much larger city.
The town itself is really student focused with everything that they offer.
It's a really safe place to go out and have fun.
The Lake District really is on your doorstep.
You know, for people who are interested in outdoor activities - walking, climbing, sailing -
there's lots to do in that sense.
One thing I'd really like to encourage you to do
is just come and say hello. Come to one of our open days or orientation days and just
really come by and get a feel for the campus and meet the staff yourself.
