It was late at night. At home was only our old cook and I.
I was working. I heard a noise, a conversation in Turkish.
I did not have enough time to leave the room. The door opened and two Turkish policemen entered.
In the most affable tone asked me to go to the police station with them.
in order to clear up some misunderstanding.
For a Turk to ask for something? I was about to laugh.
There was no space in the courtyard of the central jail.
Almost all thinkers of Pols were here.
It started.
Started again!
Young Turks turned out to be more organized than Sultan Hamid.
A good preparation was needed to gather so many people in one night.
They have thought long.
Horror was prevailing all around.
Everyone of us understood that now everything was expected.
I felt how fear crept up from my knees. My heart was breathing restlessly.
My legs wanted to run away as if someone was chasing me with stones.
Protection. We needed to protect ourselves.
It was the most ordinary sunrise, when we set on the road.
There was nothing unusual.
The sun was the same, neither black nor sad.
It was even hot.
And the rain was not crying on us.
Although, that would have been good.
At least we would not suffocate from thirst and heat.
We were walking already for a few days, with no water and food.
We did not want to talk. We were able to keep our mouths shut, but not our eyes.
An eyewitness child is telling the story.
" They brought us to the seashore,
there were so many corpse in the water that the water was hard to see.
Everyone was inflated.
Two Turkish soldiers approached us and threw two children on the ground and started to skin them alive,
The children were screaming in agony and going mad.
Meanwhile Turks were singing happily.
Public entertainment, there were no movies, no theaters
There was a new form of entertainment, Armenian Genocide.
Another eyewitness tells,
"Turks had occupied the whole city square,
in the middle there were the women holding hands forming a circle and moving slowing,
Behind them 6 soldiers with lashes were walking, while the public was appluading,
Women's hair was messy and their faces were covered in blood,
From every hit of the lash their skin was coming off
Soon they started to fall down one after another
But, Turks attacked and hit them so much with lashes
that they were forced to get up and move again
Around the women were their children
and other small Armenian children who were brought from nearby school to make the "performance" complete.
They were also organized in a circle,
and two soldiers were biting them with lashes and commanding them to applaud.
Children were applauding horrified.
Some of the children were not even 2, 3 years old and were bearly standing on their feet.
Then two soldiers approached and splashed gasoline onto the women.
The women started to scream, because gasoline was burning their ripped off skin.
Another Turk soldier approached slowly and in a ceremonial manner burned women's hair with a torch.
The fire caught on to the women's bodies. Their screams became unbearable.
The children seeing their burning mothers starting to scream terror-stricken,
but the Turkish soldiers were biting them even more severely and called them to applaud
Meanwhile, another Turk soldier threatened to have the gasoline splashed onto the children
And just like that, in front of the terrified children and the amazed public
Armenian mothers turned into ashes.
