We are an academic institution first and foremost. Um, and the principle that matters most in
the academy and should matter the most to students is this notion of integrity.
These are the four years where you become the adult human being that you're going to
be for the rest of your life. If you just grabbed someone elses work virtually
none of those achievements would be realized. Everyone has to do their own work. And that's
really the bottom line. When someone inaccurately claims an idea that truly
belongs to another person this is a theft to goes to the heart of what we are as a research
university. If I steal your wallet, I think we generally
understand that that's wrong and that that does you harm and probably even if you do
steal someone wallet you feel very bad about it. So, why should the same thing not be true
for people's ideas and peoples words it is the same.
When you steal someone elses work in whatever form you violated the trust of the students
and you violated the trust of the faculty. Princetonians come and go. They study different
things but there
are certain traditions, there are certain things
that
are static, and that are rooted, that
make
this
university great.
