Here at the american embassy in Rome, we're getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July
at the Ambassador's Residence at Villa Taverna.
Two years ago in preparation for this event we decided to go around Rome and ask
Italians what they knew about the the 4th of July.
But this year we've decided to see how americans celebrate the holiday
in the U.S. and here in Italy.
We invite you to tune into our live streaming event of the celebrations this
Wednesday July 3rd
It's a good chance for us as Americans in another country
to celebrate us being Americans...
Is when our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence.
It's a social gathering to remember.
And ever since 1776 we celebrate our freedom!
What do Americans eat on the 4th of July?!?!
Hamburgers, look we have them here.
This is the ketchup...
So many kinds of mustard
This is honey mustard for example.
It's an incredible event where we invite our guests to share in our great american food
and this is all thanks to our sponsors who so generously donate
the best that our U.S. agriculture can offer.
The purpose is to share with the local population
how we as Americans celebrate our own independence.
Ooh say can you see, By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed, At the twilight's last gleaming,
America, America
You can see the reflection of the fireworks in the reflection pool
and just lay down in the grass by the reflection pool and watch the fireworks.
It's really spectacular.
and... it's all about fireworks.
Fireworks!
Fireworks are the most important thing for the 4th of July celebration.
Fireworks
POW!
It's a lot of fun, they wake up at like,
four in the morning and start the grills up and just grill all day long.
Potato salad.
Baked beans.
Popsicles.
And also hot dogs.
Hot dogs!
I'm a little less excited about the hot dogs.
So it's a very important day
for us and we honor it every year with the big
celebration that we hope other people will join us.
It's really different from watching it on T.V.
Pretty fantastic.
Happy 4th of July, everybody.
