A Maori family residing in Japan has returned to Aotearoa.
Most of their belongings are still in Japan,
but they are just grateful to be safe from the disaster in Japan.
Relieved to have them home.
I can't explain it.
The family is here to embrace us.
This family has come together from the four corners of Aotearoa
to see these four who have returned safely from Japan.
But it would have been a struggle to get them home
if it wasn't for the support of their tribe of Tuhoe.
The Tuhoe Establishment Trust covered some of the costs
to bring them home.
I am overwhelmed that we found a way to get home
as quickly as we could.
Not only have they left their possessions behind,
they have also left some close friends behind.
They are still at odds about whether or not they will go back there.
But for now they will enjoy the embrace of family.
