Hi, my name's Lee Perkins. I'm a physical therapist and founder of HandsOnRemedy.com.
Today I'm going to talk about Meniscal Tears and why you should consider physical therapy
as your first option in the healing process. A Meniscus Tear, commonly referred to as a
Knee Cartilage Tear, occurs when the meniscus, which is a cartilage disc inside the knee,
gets stressed and tears. This injury often results from a weight bearing twisting motion,
but the tissue can just break down over time (this is referred to as a degenerative meniscus).
This meniscal tissue is in the knee helps absorb shock, and cushion the bones while
stabilizing the joint. So when it tears, you may feel any combination of pain, clicking,
locking, and with more severe tears instability. A meniscus tear can be very limiting making
it challenging to perform activities during your day; like kneeling on the floor, going
up and down stairs and playing your favorite sport.
With early Physical Therapy treatment, you can maximize your function quickly and cost
effectively. On the first visit, your Physical Therapist will perform differential diagnostic
testing to determine your exact condition. You should then expect a hands-on treatment
incorporating specialized techniques to help get the results you need. Your therapist will
also provide a home exercise program specific to your injury and the training to perform
those exercises correctly. Our goal as therapists is the same as yours; heal quickly and heal
permanently. The information you see on our website and this video should NOT be used
to determine your own condition. You should seek medical advice from a qualified professional
first. Find your Physical Therapist now at HandsOnRemedy.com, and best wishes for a speedy
recovery.
