The installation has a narrative within it
of a man who wants to get away from
all that kind of culture that goes with cities and money
and capitalism, and he has all these ideas in his head
of what escaping from this kinda place means, and living with nature.
He travels further and further north,
and he comes to this place
where he decides he's going to build a shack and he builds it around himself
out of whatever he can find.
The things in the shack
and how the shack's built up, kind of merges with his own ideas
memories, neuroses.
And he slowly begins to go
a bit crazy
he's pretty much built a prison for himself.
The story kind of leaves off there and it's open-ended
but the character of the traveller
was, kind of mainly based on myself and my own searches
philosophically, and my own ideas of getting away from things.
One of my ambitions is to
spend a year trying to live in
a forest or a rainforest.
But then I thought maybe well, it is some kind of cliche, some kind of myth
and then the reality of living in a space like that would be completely different.
