Okay, well at Christian action we offer free counseling services to refugees and asylum
seekers. And it was really as a result of a recognition that that really wasn’t available,
up until really about six months ago. Albeit here in Christian action we had two or three
counselors who were providing counseling services. There wasn’t really a dedicated psychosocial
team that could really meet the needs of this particular group of people, that come with
particular issues and traumas and unquestionably come with a need for counseling services and
social support. So we here at Christian action, have a psychosocial program which offers individual
counseling, talk therapy if you like. Our practitioners come with a range of skills
from counselors with masters qualifications, to clinical psychologists to art therapists,
to life coaches. So a range of skills and a range backgrounds that we feel we can then
match that with the particular needs of our clients. We also offer group work programs
which again come from the needs of the clients. So what we are about in Christian Action is
really listening to the clients, and responding to what their needs are at different times.
So whether that’s a women’s group or a men’s group, looking at particular issues
for them. So in answer to your questions, because I’ve sort of gone off on a tangent
they can come to us here in Christina action, and they can self refer or they can be referred
through their lawyer, through RAC or through UNHCR.
