JUDY MADDIGAN: Well when we finally get to the end of the findings, we write a report
with a number of recommendations in it and that’s presented to parliament, not the
government, so its actually tabled in the parliament and then it’s a public document,
so any members of the community who are interested can come and get a copy of it. And under our
committee rules the government has to respond to our recommendations in six months, so their
response can be that they agree with them or they disagree with them and they also outline
what they intend to do with the ones they agree with and then it’ll be passed on to
the next stage so that might be legislation, it might be changes to regulations or it might
be just the way that some departments operate so the government is then responsible for
ensuring that the recommendations they agree with are in fact carried out.
