Constitution was born out %uh the Bible 30 percent 30 percent up everything in our founding documents comes from one book the book Deuteronomy 1 30 percent if you don't know what it came from you certainly can't repair it so whenever I hear something as silly and stupid and inaccurate as that my initial response is always how the *** can you say that without doing Wii did you know research are you just completely talking out of your *** quote the false statement is based on a nineteen eighty-four study by a University of Houston professor who found that among the documents published during the founding era the Bible was the most frequently cited source but that was largely because most of the citations came from sermons reprinted as pamphlets hundreds of sermons were reprinted during the era amounting to at least 10 percent up all pamphlets published okay so that's it the starting point right there keep that in mind that is a loose a levy what this is based off now remember he's already wrong because we're talking about arm the idea that over 10 percent %uh all citations during those times in the past were Bible citations and again that makes perfect sense his back in a time you know we're still majority religious today imagine a religious people were back then when you know the Enlightenment science education a lot stuff was at a very minimal level right and but so it makes sense that back then most everything cited not for the Constitution again that's the key point here not for the Constitution just love the majority the things that were published works back then they had are a little bit over 10 percent the citations were from the Bible so that's the first point in how he came to saying this all along comes Beck's historian a guy named David Barton who we've talked about on the show and we've done stories about him before too he is most known 4 publishing a book about jefferson that was given the title the least accurate history book in print from I think it was history news network says the kinda guy that we're dealing with here and he said back in 2010 quote 34 percent up the identifiable quotes from the thousands up documents that were published during the founding era came from the Bible in Deuteronomy was the most frequently cited book among those quotes so you saw step number one was the is study that said a little over 10 percent other quotes from all the works back then were but Bible citations right step number two is Beck's fake historian comes in kicks that number up to 34 percent okay insight i Deuteronomy is the most commonly quoted one and then step number three is when that comes along and according a right wing watch quote orderly misrepresents this time and again in order to claim that one-third of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence came directly out of the book up Deuteronomy okay so goes from a little over 10 percent for all the works to thirty-four percent for all the works to a 34 percent of you know bore you with them again now but also just the basic fact that how many times are the Constitution reference the word God 0 the Bible 0 Deuteronomy 0 Jesus 0 how many times as a reference religion once in the Establishment Clause to say we shall not established by religion to say there can be no religious test for office okay so all it would take is from either read the *** Constitution or to do a little bit a research online and you would realize that he sounds like such an idiot man it is such a made-up idea in in the end when you actually look back at the reality of it n what the point I'm trying to get across here is this is the level of scrutiny and the level of skepticism that you have to have all the time especially when you're listening to you know right-wing pundits talk because it's always like I heard something from somebody else from somebody else they're old not trustworthy people but I like them so I'm just gonna take it out with myself a
