Hey there, I'm Kalyn Hemphill, your fashion expert.
Do you have plans for a winter getaway?
A favorite of mine is to go skiing with friends, and by
skiing, I mean I sit by the fire in the lodge with a hot toddy
and a good book, while they freeze in the chairlift.
But okay, so assuming you're one who likes to hit the slopes,
I do have some essentials to make sure you look and feel good
as you glide down the mountain.
Skis, poles, boots, helmet -- check, check, check.
Now let's get to the important stuff.
There are a few essential beauty items you want to bring along
for any cold-weather vacation.
I like to pack my toiletries in clear plastic so I can see
what products are where.
The chilly, dry winter air is your skin's enemy.
Make sure you have a lip balm, something with a wax ingredient
to protect your lips, as well as petroleum to moisturize.
Sunscreen, even in the winter, is vital.
Who doesn't wear sunscreen?
It's basically a beauty law at this point.
Be good to your skin in the winter.
Use a mild soap and moisturize after bathing.
Skiing is a gear heavy sport, so from the get-go you've got
a lot you need to pack, and you want to pack smart.
Simplify this by wearing clothes that serve double duty.
This vest is reversible, so it's like two
for the packing space of one.
Packing a suitcase can be the worst part of planning a trip.
Trying to fit what you'll for sure need with what you might
need is tough, and it requires smart strategy.
Start by making a list of activities.
Sure, you'll be skiing by day, but any plans for shopping,
dining, and the like -- how casual or formal
are these plans?
Once you've figured that out, choose your pieces wisely
and plan on pairing several tops with one or two bottoms.
Opt for fabrics that travel easy and won't wrinkle
beyond recognition.
We all have a favorite bulky sweater, but for a longer trip,
plan on layering lightweight knits and microfibers instead.
With thinner fabrics that are still warm, you'll have
more options to wear throughout your trip.
Winter parkas take up a lot of suitcase real estate.
I have a tip for making it work: open up the coat and wrap it
around the top of the other contents in your suitcase.
Tuck it around the inside edges, and there you go.
Winter is a beautiful season, and with a little organizing,
packing for your getaway will be a breeze.
I'm Kalyn Hemphill.
See ya next time.
