Depression can be debilitating and horrible. It is much more than the blues, and unfortunately
, it may take a few weeks to several years. Most people are in a battle to beat depression
at some point in their lives , so there is a lot of research and information available
on the subject . The following is a brief list of some of the strategies that might
help .
· Consider making an appointment with your primary care physician .
Even if you do not plan to take antidepressants , your doctor may be able to give an overview
of why you feel depressed . If it is a medical condition that is causing you to feel tired
and depressed , there may be a simple solution that can make you feel like you shortly. To
beat depression , you need to explore all your options , so do not be afraid to mix
traditional and alternative therapies ( such as meditation methods ) to find the right
combination for you.
· Find another carrier.
Talk with family , close friends, religious lawyer , therapist or other trusted persons
. Human contact is so important, and knowing that others around them have addressed similar
issues of depression can be reassuring . They can lend an ear to listen , and sometimes
will give you strategies that have enabled them to fight depression too. Try going for
a walk / run with a close friend. This leads me to another important adaptation strategy

· Exercise .
Make sure you get regular cardiovascular exercise. There will probably be days you do not even
want to leave the bed. Been there , done that . Fighting these days that tells you just
go for a walk 3-5 minutes. Set a small goal , so I just have to leave the bed. More than
likely, after 3-5 minutes you will feel better and you want to continue . There are many
forms of cardio exercise. However, walking is something almost everyone can do , and
it does not require specialized skills or equipment . So get out and walk and enjoy
the vitamin D from sunlight ( weather permitting ) .
· Evaluate your diet.
Vitamin D is essential for mental and physical health vitamin. However, this is not the only
nutritional requirement to avoid depression . Like the old saying, " you are what you
eat. " There are foods to avoid to overcome depression, such as fatty foods , for example.
Then there are other foods such as fruits and vegetables, eat more. Making small changes
in your diet, little at a time . do not think it's going to leave all the candy , for example.
Set small achievable goals , so that you will develop healthy eating habits over time instead
of getting frustrated and give up completely.
· Use Mindful meditation methods .
Find a quiet room , sit down, and focus on your breathing . Try to do it every day . This
causes it to observe yourself , instead of reacting to emotions. Practice these methods
of meditation regularly, and you should find that your mood improves.
Remember , depression is not a constant. They come and go . As you learn to deal with depression
and finally defeating you can incorporate some or all of the above strategies , and
identify strategies of their choice.
