Hi and welcome back to ChiCho Snippets
today we're going to be having a look at at the most popular social media
platforms to see which ones are right for you.
Now the key to social media for business is being comfortable with using it
now a lot of companies we speak to often try to use them all and can't manage to
run all of them successfully
so we'd advise to start with
just choose
one or two you can use well and get those running effectively
then consider what platform to use next
when you've got some real results
now always remember that the quality of your content is key
it's better to have one social media channel with great content than five
That never get viewed or updated. So...
What about facebook?
now facebook is great for any business that wants to put their personality into their
brand but...
it's the same platform but your mates compare drinking stories on so be
warned and don't mix the two.
if we take a look at Sharpie for instance they use facebook to highlight
the personal side of their brand. It's got tons of personality on this timeline
and they use it to show off their products
and the two feed off each other
Facebook is packed with tools to get you noticed but be warned
a lot of companies are competing for timeline space
and getting noticed is getting more and more difficult
when deciding whether a facebook is for you. You need to ask yourself do you
really want to show the personal side of your business or brand
in an informal environment?
if not maybe not
On to Twitter
Now tons of companies only run a twitter page. Its most effective when you
communicate with your followers regularly
and it's all about sharing useful information and exciting discussion about
what you've posted
now it's a great way to establish yourself as an authority in your field
or access the ideas of the best and brightest in it.
Now the other way of using it is to breakdown corporate communication
barriers and find out what your customers are thinking
really thinking
directly
now take Post It for example they successfully run their twitter page to
give their customers a platform for constructive feedback
now Post It deal with their customer enquiries very very fast and
effectively all done
through their twitter page.
Or you can use it to find out what Stephen Fry had for dinner
mmmm...Adrian
On to YouTube
now YouTube is often thought of as a platform for videos of drunk people or a
place to put your video of your funny cat
however
it's a great place for companies to put compelling visual content in front of
their customers
The trick is to create a video that's entertaining, promotes plenty of comment
or video that comments on issues that other YouTubers have raised
The demand for video is growing because the trick to running a
successful YouTube channel is in putting up
high quality content regularly
now if you are only going to produce one video it will help
but the real success stories are the companies that
build an audience for their content like Geek Beat, Equals Three
The Onion etcetera
just the same as the BBC would
but even if it's just one video
if you make a great one and it goes viral
you're in the money!
check this one from Dollar Shave Club dot com. It's fantastic.
Work your YouTube channel hard but also remember that there's other video
distribution sites such as Vimeo, Dailymotion
Meta Cafe and many more
now moving on
from awareness campaigns to helpful cheat sheets Pinterest is all about the
images
infographics is a really fun way to get a point across visually
That can be kept for future reference
if your company sells products Pinterest is a great way to promote new lines
now let's have a look at TopShop for instance. As a well-known retailer
they use Pinterest
to show their clothing
and introduced new designers
they also use it to show off their new seasonal lines as and when they come up
now linkedin is the place where millions of businesses network
the network allows you to build relationships, generate leads
gain insights, improve your reputation and build online business connections.
now the etiquette and language and behaviour
is pretty formal
business-to-business in feel
but a huge number of professionals use it
and it can be an amazingly powerful tool to promote your business and your personal
professional reputation
joining the right groups
will put you in touch with the interested and motivated professionals
in your field and create awareness of your own business and skills. So...
which social media platforms are right for you and your business?
Remember it isn't all about
how many social media sites you have
it's which you can manage properly
and create great content for.
Make the decision to work *** one before moving on to another one
Make sure you get it right first time.
