Let me share with you a little bit about getting some nice books to go along with your study.
First of all, there are paper supply places, there are calligraphic tool supply places.
Paper And Ink Arts, and this is the catalog for Paper And Ink Arts and they're online
and you can get things from them. One of the things that you can get are lots of wonderful
and beautiful books. All kinds of, all the the tools that I've showed you and more. They're
all kinds of wonderful books that you can get. So, rather than go into long details
about the kinds of books that you can get, maybe they have an online catalog, I'm not
sure but you can surely get to them online. I'm only going to mention a few books. This
is the Speedball Textbook and look at that gorgeous alphabet. I didn't do that. This
was actually the first book that I ran across over thirty years ago. It got me interested
in lettering. But, you know what? It was so funny because I didn't even know the word
calligraphy when I came across this book and you see it talks about lettering it doesn't
say anything about calligraphy. So it was quite a while before I actually ran across
the word. Calli means beautiful, graphy means writing, calligraphy means beautiful writing.
Let's start with this one. This is the story of writing by Donald Jackson. Remember in
the very beginning how I talked about "Well, we're not going to talk about exactly how
letters came about because that's a big long story"? This is a beautiful book, The Story
of Writing. This is, I would say, something that if you're serious about calligraphy this
is one of your, going to be, one of your staples.
