[G. Glaros]Want to stay connected with other students on campus? Then get involved with
IUPUI’s Common Theme Project. With every common theme is a campus read. This year’s
book is No Impact Man by Colin Beavan. Capri Copp has the details on this year’s theme
and your no impact tip of the week. [C. Copp] “Consuming Well for the Wealth
of Communities, from IUPUI to the World” is the title of IUPUI’s Common Theme. Join
in for the second year discussion about the consequences of our consumption and the healthier,
greener and more sustainable communities we might build here in Indiana and around the
world. Make impact with no impact. This year’s
campus read is No Impact Man by Colin Beavan. Beavan asks the question; is it really possible
to live eco-effectively? Discover what he and his wife do for one year to find the answer
in an attempt to save the planet from environmental catastrophe. You can purchase the campus read
from your campus bookstore for 25% off. I began reading this book last weekend, and
it is a must read! While I won’t spoil its contents, I will give you your no impact tip
of the week! Carry your own personal water container, and
refill it. Also purchase a water filter, and refill from the tap at home instead of buying
plastic bottles of water. Mark your schedules for the rest of this year’s
common theme events! There will be several screenings of the No
Impact Man documentary on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout September and October. The first
screening is Tuesday, September 1 in the Lilly Auditorium, University Library 0130 at 3pm.
You definitely will not want to miss No Impact Week, which will take place Monday, October
4th through Saturday, October 9th. Find out what you can do each day during no impact
week to help make a healthier, greener planet. Also, the author of No Impact Man, Colin Beavan
will visit the campus on Wednesday, November 10th, so plan ahead.
Soon you can find the details for all the events for this year’s common theme at events.iupui.edu.
