American Airlines & Us Airways Merging, Biggest Us Airlines

airline news american airlines in usairways will merge apparently this is something that has been uh... in the works for some time now this will create the biggest airline in the world i think so yes certainly in the u_s_ actually i don't know if in the world i would assume cell but said the news as far as far as i read it its biggest in the u_s_ yeah uh... so this has been approved a new carrier will be called american airlines but usairways c_e_o_ doug parker will become the c_e_o_ of the new company an american c_e_o_ tom horton will serve as chairman of the new company until the middle of next year and uh... that's that's what it's looking like right now now we got a ton of consolidation in the airline industry a few years ago delta merged with northwest and it became part of delta united essentially absorbed continental southwest bought airtran airways and now if this merger happens and it appears that it will american the new american the new united the new delta and the new southwest will control about seventy five percent of american airline traffic so contrary what many people with would assume we actually have not seen price increases of as a result of consolidation or maybe would have you would have seen bigger price decreases were it not for the consolidation but inflation adjusted over the last nine or so years u_s_ domestic airfares have dropped by about one percent dropped by about one percent what certainly hasn't gotten any better as customer service on these are lines really pretty atrocious and across the board yeah mocking do about that i mean it seems like foreign airlines have have to light up their i have to say that hi-fi mostly united partners and when i went to portugal lifelong cap portugal now other than none of the audio video equipment working and uh... it being just incredibly boring long flight i must say that the service was better mood was better and i don't know what else to tell you that's just my anecdotal experience with that one particular airline their i can't remember flying are on an international flight will didn't you go on icelandair yes and turkish air how were those preservers are very good if there's a so you can remember no i was gonna say you'd let me finish my centralized accurately hundreds of national flight with an american airliner always hear you always fly international airlines as far as i can remember well louis making big claims on today's show thank you listen to profit i don't know that this is that great of a deal for u_s_ air and in u_s_ air was they they made i think uh... belittle over six hundred million last year a lot of airlines lose money maybe it's better to stay small and make some money instead of just be wrapped up into one of the losing money airlines but we'll see what happens yeah they obviously they thought this was that the best for both parties i really have not flown un-american for a for a really really really long time are u_s_ air i have flown on but uh... yeah what ways annoying about this personally is out by always fly to d_c_ u_s_ air is the most convenient for us and it flies right into uh... reagan national airport which is the closest to downtown and being a united flyer usairways was part of star alliance of my miles would count towards united now i'm assuming that that's going away because of the american partnership well maybe not i'm personally annoyed by this and i said what we all feel really bad for you did thank you
