They had another field trip to the Battlefields from the First World War, and that was an
amazing experience because I had a friend who also did her exchange there. So that was
very powerful and emotional and we both study history so it was a really great experience.
In terms of their histories, Paris, unlike Berlin, wasn't damaged much in World War II.
Berlin was liberated by the Soviets who came into Nazi occupied Berlin that was one of
the last strongholds of the Nazi regime. If you're in Berlin and look closely, or if you
know someone who lives in Berlin, they'll show you bullet marks from the Soviet bullets
from 1945. (The exchanges,) they've taught me that I can adapt to different communities
and find a place for myself within them and that I really love travelling. I guess these
experiences have made me want to travel even more, so I'm now considering applying for
the Foreign Service.
