Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. As we roll into February, the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet has used more than 104,000 tons of salt to help motorists navigate
through ice and snow on Kentucky’s roadways. In addition, 1.1 million gallons of brine
and 291,000 gallons of Calcium Chloride solutions have been used to lessen the bonding of ice
to the pavement. Kentucky’s first winter weather event happened in October, and only
a handful of events have occurred since, so the Transportation Cabinet’s salt inventory
remains well-stocked. And we’re ready to go should February weather turn nasty.
And don’t forget – there’s still time to share your thoughts on important transportation
issues in Kentucky. So far, more than 8,200 people have taken our short and confidential
survey that’s used to gauge the transportation expectations of folks who travel the state.
The “Your Turn” survey will run through Feb. 25. To take the survey, log onto transportation.ky.gov
and click the “Your Turn” picture. This has been your KYTC Minute. Visit us every
Thursday for updated information.
