Oracle And Java, Apple And The Ftc, Google And Privacy - 60 sec security

Oracle's was the big one, especially for Java, with 34 potential remote code execution holes plugged. If you have Java installed, that is a "must patch", so check right now that you are on Java 7 Update 51. Apple got into hot water with the US Federal Trade Commission and will refund up to thirty-two million dollars of in-app purchases. The FTC said that the purchase approval process in children's games wasn't clear enough, making it too easy for children to click the [Buy] button without their parents realising. And Google bought home thermostat company Nest. For thirty-two hundred million dollars. Nest knows what's going on inside your house; Street View knows what's happening outside; and privacy boffins are wondering whether that combination is such a good idea after all.
