Defeating Ieds in Afghanistan

U.S. National Guardsmen, U.S. Marines, and locals in a village in Afghanistan work together to counter the IED threat.

[truck rumbling] [Lugo] The Washington National Guard's 204th Engineers have been working with the Marines' 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion to counter the improvised explosive device threat. And the best counter they've found to IEDs--the Afghan people. They've been helping us pretty well with pointing out IEDs. Two of the IEDs we found were because of the populace. They've been coming to us pretty good. We generally stop, do a foot patrol, hand out pens and pencils, food, and see if there's anything we can do for the locals.
