I find freedom in breakdancing
I feel free in my own country
When I perform it makes people happy
They feel the same as me at that moment
They feel free
I was in university in 2004
That's where I met my friend and brother, Mohammed
also known as Funk
We got along really well
He has a lot of talent, which is rare to find in Gaza
We started to dance together for fun
Then we started the group
Everyone saw us as a bunch of guys
with nothing better to do with their lives but breakdance
But that's not it. We were determined to prove ourselves
and to show them that we do a lot of things
that they don't
like supporting children and their families
Plus we are all doing well in our everyday life
We work with a lot of young guys to help them develop
We try to help them change the way they are thinking
Many of them come to us with complicated issues
Thoughts of suicide and drug abuse
I know we are not psychologists
but we are able to get through to some of these guys
and have them develop not only in breakdancing
but in their personal lives as well
We've discovered that we are needed by our community
more than the breakdancing world
I live under siege in Gaza
Why? Why is this happening to us?
We are normal people like everyone else
We have our own dreams for the future
But it is hard to think about your future
When you are living in a situation like this
We don't want to be in a situation where
we wait for electricity every day
or tomorrow for petrol, and then war
We hope things change for the better
and that we start to feel our worth
There has to be hope in life
We can't just shut our lives down
Seriously, I hope that everyone in Gaza
comes out of the depression that they are in
Everyone goes through depression - even I do
But I treat it with my art
I have a lot of ambition and big dreams
My biggest dream is for us to leave Gaza
and tour the world and participate
in festivals and have performances
to let everyone know what Gaza is like
People here love life and they're not all bad
No, we Palestinians have lives
and have many other things
We don't live out in a desert
On the contrary, life is beautiful in Gaza
Another dream of mine is to build a big centre here
to train kids how to breakdance
and create more generations of break-dancers
so that breakdance stays alive in Gaza
