LONGER FOR THE COMPANY TO
RESPOND BUT, AGAIN, THEY
BELIEVE THEY ID'ED THE DRIVER
AT THIS POINT.
NOW AT 6:00, WHY HE RAN.
TONIGHT, NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE
MAN WHO LED POLICE ON A
DANGEROUS HIGH-SPEED CHASE ON
BOSTON'S BUSY HIGHWAYS.
THE SUSPECT FACED A JUDGE
TODAY.
BETH?
Reporter: CHARGES ARE
LENGTHY FROM ATTEMPTED ***
TO ASSAULT AND BATTERY WITH A
DANGEROUS WEAPON -- HIS CAR.
AND TONIGHT, WE'RE HEARING FROM
THE WALPOLE POLICE OFFICER WHO
WAS CAUGHT AND DRAGGED BY THAT
CAR AND HOW HE MANAGED TO FREE
HIMSELF FROM DANGER.
I DIDN'T MEAN TO HURT
NOBODY.
Reporter: "DIDN'T MEAN TO
HURT ANYBODY."
THOSE WERE THE WORDS FROM
MICHAEL LeBLANC AS HE FACES
CHARGES AFTER A HARROWING
MULTIOF-TOWN POLICE CHASE THAT
ENDED WITH HIS CAR IN A BALL OF
FLAMES.
DO YOU HAVE COMMENT -- NO,
THANK YOU.
IT'S AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION.
Reporter: AN UNFORTUNATE
SITUATION THAT PUT THE LIVES OF
OFFICER AND THE PUBLIC AT RISK,
INCLUDING DEADLY FORCE AGAINST
OFFICER MATTHEW CROWN.
[ INDISTINCT YELLING ]
LET GO!
Reporter: BROWN'S ARM GOT
STUCK IN LeBLANC'S CAR WINDOW
AND HE WAS DRAGGED 100 YARDS.
WHEN POLICE APPROACHED LeBLANC
AT THE WALPOLE COUNTRY CLUB,
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, HE DROVE
AWAY SUSPENSIONALLY.
COULD HEAR THE ENGINE, LIKE,
ACCELERATING.
I REALIZED REALLY QUICKLY I WAS
ABLE TO RUN WITH THE CAR FOR --
YOU KNOW, A NUMBER OF FEET BUT
-- AFTER AWHILE, I WAS -- BEING
OUTPACE BY THE CAR EASILY.
Reporter: IT APPEARS HE WAS
ON A MISSION TO HURT HIMSELF.
AFTER HIS ARREST, HE SAID
SEVERAL TIMES HE WANTED TO DIE
AND ACCORDING TO A POLICE
REPORT, "MICHAEL STATE THE ONLY
REASON HE RAN IS BECAUSE HE WAS
NOT MADE FOR JAIL."
OFFICER BROWN SAID HE WAS FACE-
TO-FACE.
I WAS YELLING AT HIM TO
STOP AND HE VERY CALMLY LOOKED
TO HIS LEFT AT -- WE MADE EYE
CONTACT AND HE SAID "SORRY" --
IN A SOAR CAKES WAY.
I'M PROUD OF WHAT THEY DID
AND THAT IT ENDED THE WAY IT
DID.
CROWN WAS ABLE TO PUSH
HIMSELF AWAY FROM THE CAR.
IT WAS AFTER GOOD SCARE THAT
ENDED WELL WITH NO SERIOUS
