International donors forgive Haiti’s debt. The International Monetary Fund, the World
Bank, the United States and other donors have cumulatively waived US$696 million, representing
all of Haiti’s remaining debt. This amount was forgiven with the signing of a bill by
US President Barack Obama that relieved the final US$248 million. With more than 1.5 million
people who are still residing in overcrowded temporary camps following the devastating
January earthquake, the International Monetary Fund board also approved a request for a program
to assist with reconstruction and longer-term recovery.
Many thanks, international donors and Providence bless your support in easing Haiti’s financial
burden. May her people be graced with a smooth road to a full recovery as they strive to
rebuild wholesome, stable and prosperous lives
