The template uses a Word feature called STYLES
To help you quickly and easily format your document
So when you have started your document using the template
You have options of using STYLES
Now there is another video that tells you specifically how to apply styles
This is just to explain basically what they are
A style is like a bucket full of formatting.
So for example…
This particular style, when I click here…
Notice that it highlights up here something called Heading 1
That means that a style called Heading 1 has been applied
That Heading 1 style is centered and it’s bolded
That is an APA Level 1 heading
When I click in this paragraph down here
Notice that it has a style called Body Text.
Now that Body Text is appropriately APA formatted:
It is double-spaced and there is a half inch indent
If I come down here and click on this particular heading
It is using a style called Heading 2.
That style contains bold and it is on the left hand margin
Now another nice thing about these styles is
That they are designed so that you will not have any
Widow/orphan problems.
In other words, the title Modern is going to stay glued
To the following paragraph
So that if I add something more here
Notice that it doesn’t split the title and the following paragraph
That’s part of the style.
Other styles we have are for indented quotes
So if I click in an indented quote
I can come up and now here’s where I have to use my drop down box
to find it…
but a style called Quote is selected.
So there is a style that automatically does the appropriate indent for you
And you don’t have to worry about it.
Same thing for references.
When I click on my references style,
Notice that up here in my Style Bar…
Now you may have to use your up or down buttons to find it…
You’ll see that References is highlighted.
So that means that this is appropriately formatted with a hanging indent
Of course you still have to know how to type your references.
But that’s the basics of STYLES.
I hope this helps!
Bye bye!
