eTV: Romelu (Lukaku).. obviously, he can't play because its his parent club.
Is it frustrating or is it a little bit beneficial that he's not had a chance to get to know us yet..
So this game's come.. sort of early, so soon in his arrival here.
Is that less of an issue because this game is out of the way, to a certain extent?
RM: Well.. there's.. there's always different ways to look at it. I think uh..
First and foremost is, we're delighted that Romelu is gonna be here for the long term.
To have him here for the whole season, is really exciting news. He brings completely different strengths to our forward line.
And, he is a player that we really admire.
And, he's gonna fit in really, really well to.. to the Everton style.
So that's clearly the most important aspect.
He needs to miss the Chelsea game. I think its a disappointment because..
he's come back really strong and sharp from the Belgian.. eh..
time.. with the national team and, you want Romelu just to..
to be available to be in the pitch at any time, so..
But that can't be the situation this weekend, so..
We got a lot of games coming on..
From the West Ham, and then we still got the Carling Cup.
at Fulham the week after, and, obviously we've got a lot of games before the next international break.
So we really are gonna take the time to make sure that Romelu is as strong as he can be..
and as fit as he can be.. to make sure that he's ready to compete for his place.
eTV: Yea, he seems .. he's obviously a big strong player, but he seems quite an intelligent player..
quite an intelligent person as well.
Does it help when you've got James and Gareth and those lads as well?
Does it help when they seem.. Everton.. people, as it were ?
RM: Yea, that's that's vitally important. I think that we all want quality footballers.
But, that's for the short term. For the long term .. benefit of the group,
you need good human beings and human beings that represent the values of Everton.
And, the 3 players you mentioned..
Romelu, probably Romelu, he's just only 20, but he's had so many experiences..
since the age of 16, he's been .. he's been in the media.
and he's been the full attention of someone that is got..
one of the most privileged attributes as a #9, so..
He's very, very mature..
Very intelligent, in that respect. And he brings a real quality.. in the human side..
that James McCarthy and Gareth Barry clearly has (have) in abundance.
[match commentary] Time we go to the first half for Everton, Deulofeu still!!!!
Right at the end of the first half, the Spaniard makes his impact on Goodison (Park).
eTV: One player you brought in was Gerard Deulofeu..
who came from Barcelona.. obviously, has a clear understanding of the way they like to play football
He got his first Premier League appearance.. against Cardiff, and looked very good in that spell..
Is he getting closer to more Premier League action? Is he a player we can see more of.. of him in the coming weeks?
He is, he is. Obviously, Gerard has got a terrific application in his work and..
already you've seen a difference in the way that he's growing.
He's growing into a phenomenal footballer.
He's only 19. He relies on his natural talent.
And that always helps for any player, to be effective in whichever group you play in.
But clearly, coming from Spain, and a specific way of playing like Barcelona..
He's gonna take a little bit of time to adapt to the Premier League.
Just clearly the physicality of the League is different.
And, and, again.. he's done that quicker than I expected.
His game against.. in the second round of the Carling Cup.
A competition.. it showed everyone.. that he's someone.. that he can create something out of nothing.
that he's ready to give you that extra edge in the attacking third..
And when you've got that as a player, he's gonna be very important.
in the Premier League campaign, and that's something that we're gonna see..
evolving and developing over the next few weeks.. and months, but..
Clearly, he's well ahead of where I expected him to be at this stage.
