We're used to buying what we know. Like A-brand food.
But what about a more reasonably priced alternative?
Do you really miss out on stuff, or just money?
Buying a very compact car often goes in a similar way.
VW's Up sold the best over here in January 2015.
But what about the reasonably priced alternatives?
Like the Suzuki Celerio: sized like the Up, but cheaper.
5 doors, well-equiped and less than 10000 euros.
Mitsubishi's Space Star then: a base 5 door car.
Lastly, the more expensive yet very popular Peugeot 108.
So, which one of these tastes best?
City cars or not, we want some practicallity.
The Celerio succeeds the Alto and gains a lot of room.
254 liters as standard, up to 1053. Look at this!
Well done Suzuki!
Plenty of space in the back, too - though you sit upright.
Despite its name, the Space Star is a bit tighter. 9 liters in fact.
These crates just don't fit properly. Shame.
The space in the back is alright, though.
Peugeot says the 108 is hardly bigger than the 107. And it isn't roomy.
The boot is really small. You can hardly squeeze these in.
I wouldn't like this as an everyday car.
In the back, it's a bit too basic. Look at these windows.
And little legroom, really. Bit of a letdown.
Interestingly, the 208 is comfortable and roomy up front.
It feels nice and drives well. An agile city car.
It's a bit too bouncy for the motorway, mind.
The supple 68 PS 1.0 3-cil engine is surpringly good, too.
It's quite supple and can do what you ask of it. Good!
The Space Star lacks just that. It's not built for speed, sure.
But you don't instantly feel the 71 PS when you accelerate.
Once you're going, it's all fine, but not in city traffic sadly.
It's not an inspiring drive but adequate overall. Fair ride, too.
Same goes for the Suzuki Celerio. Another 'vanilla' car.
But it drives better than the Mitsu. The engine is livelier.
The gearbox is solid. Compared to the 108, the ride is more balanced.
It's more relaxed, nice for long drives. The seating is poor, though.
Now I'm big, but I could fit better in the other cars. Be sure to check.
This is not about picking brand quality, but a sum of qualities.
The Celerio and Space Star are nice cars, if very rational.
There's hardly any 'flavour' to them, really.
The 108 is more playful, which I prefer. Which would you get?
