Hello, my name is Jacob Moore and I'd like
to invite you to my discussion on digital textbooks. Textbooks have been used in
education practice for, now, more than a hundred years. There's been
little to no change. With the new digital medium, there's a new design flexibility with textbooks
that hasn't been there before. So now is the time that we really need to re-exam
how the textbook is designed. We want a textbook that's based in theory,
not based on the existing paper tool that's there now. I've been working
in this area specifically to use concept maps as a way to organize information that
better matches how people store information in their head. The
incarnation of this has been the Adaptive Map tool, which I've got running behind me here.
And with the adaptive map tool, we've got a concept map based system.
So please join me for the discussion where I'm gonna demonstrate
the Adaptive Map tool and talk about the theory behind this. I'll share
the results of what I've found so far, and discuss how that's relevant to you.
And I'd like to start a discussion about the future of textbooks, understanding what
textbooks are gonna look like twenty years from now. So please join me
and thank you for listening.
