Hello, this is @CiroArgus from Twitter
also contributor to Continue
And today I'm going to review
instead of games, as usual,
an action figure.
THING IS: I'm recording this in portuguese, but
it should be in english, because
the real target audience is the /toy/soldiers at 4chan.
Hello, people who are reading the subtitles!
I hope my third world ape-like language doesn't disturb you!
This is the Sci-Fi Revoltech Giant Robot, by Kaiyodo
Here we have a great representation of the character.
I mean, I didn't watch the show because it was aired in 1967, and I wasn't born yet.
I bought this for my father's birthday.
The visuals caught me by surprise because they're REALLY COOL,
yet it has a certain retro feel to it.
And I'm not used to this kind of design because I'm still a KID, I grew up with Medabots and my favorite giant robots are the ones from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
So, Giant Robot is a... giant, stiff robot, and it has a sphynx head which is SO COOL.
I don't know why but I think it's simply awesome.
In his back we have a little jetpack.
So I guess you can get him in flight poses if you have the appropriate stand, WHICH by the way I still don't.
So, yeah, can't show you that one.
Anyway. Here we have its stand, where its name is written - I guess - and the year of the show, 1967.
I can't read japanese, so I can't really be sure, but it's pretty obvious.
Let me take this out of the way
Here you can see it comes with... many hands!
Actually, it has 4 pairs of hands, the first one being... oh wait. Five pairs of hands.
The first, besides the calm, resting pair you can see in the figure, we have fists
Some ANGRY hands
Stretched out hands, for the Giant Robot's signature poses
And the very same stretched out hands, but with missiles coming out of them!
The reason behind it is that one of his attacks is shooting missiles out of his hands.
I can't confirm this, again, but I think it's true because the BOX says so!
And the box doesn't lie.
Moving this
As for the poseability
This is a Revoltech, but it's from the Sci-fi/Tokusatsu line, so you can't expect the same poseability.
This in mind, it has a single Revoltch joint in the neck
For those who don't know, these Revoltech joints have this 'click' - can you hear it?
It limits you to move the limbs only to pre-determined spots.
You can't escape it, that's how the figure was made. I actually think it's good, I love these joints, they're solid and durable.
And there's absolutely no breaking it, so, for me it's great.
With the neck joint you can make it look up, look down and look right and left. And look retarded this way.
What I like about this figure is that it has Revoltech joints alright, but it also has these caps like the foldings in the original design.
Oh wait, this was upside down! The more you know.
So you see, it covers it perfectly. It's very cool and I don't have anything to criticize here. The design is perfect.
But it causes a few problems I'll talk about later.
In the elbow we have a standard swivel joint, it's not Revoltech.
And the fists are Revolver joints.
In the waist there's one too, but it doesn't do much.
It goes a bit up and down, I think it's more for him to look down and stuff. I don't see many reasons why you'd want him to do that, though.
And here's where the problems about this figure start.
It has a double joint in the knee, which is awesome because it allows you to do this!
On the other hand, the hip joint does... almost nothing.
It's a great limitation to the possibilities you could have with this figure.
I think it has more to do with its original design than properly being the Kaiyodo's fault.
But... you can't ignore it, it's a flaw.
The feet joints are also Revoltech, having a great range of movement, but anyway...
Another important thing: this falls A LOT. For no apparent reason.
Whether I'm moving or it's still... it falls.
So it's another problem you'll have if you buy this toy.
Again, the feet joints are fine, but because of the hips there aren't many poses you can do with it.
Changing hands is very simple, but sometimes can be a problem.
You just pull it... and almost everytime, the joint goes off too.
Sometimes it goes off, sometimes it doesn't.
That said... after that you just put the spare hand in the appropriate place, fit it in the joint...
PRESS IT HARD
Then you just put it back, and there's your hand.
No mystery so far!
I changed hands again off screen, but uh
I think, simply, that this is the sort of pose you can get out of this toy without any stand.
I think you can do a lot of cool things with it if you have the stand made by Bandai
Those intended for Figuarts... whose name I don't remember.
And that's it... This toy is clearly intended for people who know the series, or collect Revoltechs
And will use it more as reposeable statues than as toys.
And I know most Revoltechs are like that, they don't move as easily as other figures
But I have to say that, when a toy comes with a stand like that, with its name written on it, it was MADE to be left still.
So even though I've shown you that you can make different and cool poses with it
I think it was primarily intended to be presented still, in a cool pose, like... the one in the box.
Well, this was a review by @CiroArgus or The Brazilian Soldier
And I hope I helped you decide if you're going to buy the Giant Robot or not.
And personally I think it's worth it in anyone's collection, because it has such an awesome design.
And it's a Giant Robot from way before than Gundam, or Gurren Lagann... or Evangelion...
I have to say that Gurren Lagan is one of my favorite robots, but it doesn't have this... feel to it.
And I think it's a great contrast to newer robots.
Well, thanks for watching,
and again sorry for the soldiers who had to watch this with subtitles
I know it's an inconvenient
but I had no choice because I sound like BOrat when I speak in English.
