Welcome to this tutorial about
the Centra System Check.
The System Check is a process that lets
you know if your computer is capable
of running Centra.
It's very important that you run
the System Check before your
first Centra session.
You only need to run it once on a computer.
Make sure you have the latest version
of Java installed.
To check this, go to java.com,
click the Do I have Java? link
and follow the instructions to verify
the version on your computer.
Mac users: Use Software Update
on the Apple Menu to check that you have
the most up-to-date version for your Mac.
The System Check will verify that your
browser is supported by Centra
and you have Javascript enabled,
test your network connection to
the Centra server and walk you through
the Audio Wizard to test audio playback
and your microphone.
It will also install the Centra client
on your computer so you'll be ready to go
when you attend your first Centra session.
You can access the System Check from any
Moodle course that has links
to Centra sessions.
Be sure to allow pop-ups in your browser
before running the System Check.
From your Moodle course,
in the Activities block,
click the Centra Events link.
On the "Centra Events" page,
click the System Check link.
The System Check will open in a
new browser window or tab,
depending on your browser settings.
It opens with a listing of the technical
requirements for different operating systems.
Scroll to the bottom of the window
and click Start.
The "Browser Check" will confirm that
your browser is supported by Centra
and you have Javascript enabled.
You can follow the progress of the check
in the "System Check List" on the left.
Click Continue.
The "Security Warnings" page alerts you
that you may see one or more message windows
when Centra runs the Network Check.
Click Continue to begin this check.
Centra now checks your network connection
to the Centra server and installs Centra
on your computer.
This may happen automatically
or you may be asked to click Yes or Grant
in one or more message windows
depending on your browser.
To bypass the warnings in future events,
select "Always trust content
from Saba Software, Incorporated"
or "Remember this decision."
On the "Network Check Results" page,
you will see "Passed!" if your computer
made a good connection with the server
and Centra was installed. Click Continue.
The Audio Wizard now opens in a new window.
Select your audio hardware type.
In this example, we've selected
Headset with microphone,
the recommended headset type. Click Next.
The "Speaker Volume" test now runs
and you will hear a brief audio message.
Use the slider control
to set a comfortable level.
When you've set the level, click Next.
The "Microphone Volume" test runs.
Speak into your microphone and you will
hear your voice in a slight delay.
Adjust the slider so that the volume
will be in the yellow while you're speaking
at a comfortable level. Click Finish.
If your computer has passed all the tests,
you’ll see the message:
"All System Checks passed!"
on the Summary page. Click Exit.
If nothing happens,
close the browser window or tab.
Be sure to close any other Saba Centra
windows or tabs that may still be open.
You're now ready
to attend your Centra session.
