Opponents of genetically engineered food labeling want you to believe it will raise
food prices. Is this correct? We did some price comparisons.
Kellogg’s Corn Flakes in California. $4.49. In England. $3.19.
In Belgium. $4.24. In Spain. $2.89.
In Europe, when GMO labeling laws went into effect in 1997, It did not result in
increased costs, despite the horrifying (double-digit) prediction of some interests.
In Germany. $3.87 And in Australia $4.07
We, as with most manufacturers, are continually updating our packaging. It is a
regular cost of doing business - a small one at that - and is already built into the
price consumers pay for products.
There has never been a documented report that genetic modification labeling has
led to a cost increase in food anywhere.
So you see, in many countries where GMOs are required to be labeled, the same
products are actually cheaper. Telling Americans that labeling will increase food
prices is an outright lie.
