AUTHORITIES ARE
CALLING IT A HATE
CRIME.
JUST AHEAD.. THE
LATEST ON THE
VULGAR VANDALISM
FOUND AT AN
AFTRICAN AMERICA
HERITAGE CENTER A
HATE CRIME IN
SOUTHERN KENTUCKY
AND A DEADLINE FOR
THE CENTREPOINTE
PROJECT IS SET TO
EXPIRE TODAY... BUT
WILL WE SEE WORK
BEING STARTED?
GOOD MORNING.
I'M MICHELE
CHAMBERLAND.
AND I'M BILL BRYANT.
IT'S .
Milder winds will crank
up ahead of a strong
late week storm
system. This means
temps by Wednesday
afternoon could flirt
with 70 degrees under
mostly sunny skies.
Showers and
thunderstorms will
increase Wednesday
night into Thursday.
Locally heavy rainfall is
a good bet during this
time. A few strong
storms are possible
along the cold front
Thursday evening.
Colder air filters in for
Friday as temps drop
through the 50s.
Chilly weather moves
in for the weekend with
the potential for
overnight lows to reach
the middle 20s. That
could set the stage for
a hard freeze.
Another shot of cold
moves in next week.
THE OWNER OF THE
LAUREL COUNTY
AFRICAN-AMERICAN
HERATIGE CENTER IS
CALLING RECENT ACTS
OF VANDALISM A
SERIOUS WAKE UP
CALL.
AND NOW LONDON
POLICE SAY THE
VANDALISM IS BEING
INVESTIGATED AS A
HATE CRIME.
WKYT'S CAITLIN
CENTNER JOINS US
FROM THE LIVEDESK
WITH THE DETAILS.
Owners of the Laurel
County African
American Heritage
Center say the letters
"***" painted across
their sign is a serious
wake up call.
Frustrated... mad...
hurt... just a few words
describing how workers
at the center say they
felt afer noticing what
police are investigating
as a hate crime. C-
E-O of the center,
Wayne Riley, was
driving past the center
when he noticed "***"
written boldly... in front
of a building he
considers 'sacred
ground'.
He opened the
building back in 2004.
It was an abandoned
church; one he had
grown up in.
Although Riley said
he's not going to let
the crime intimidate
him... his family doesn't
want to cover it up,
either.
Salena Riley / Asst.
office manager"I don't
want to cover it. For
the most part, people
wanna be blind. They
want to pretend like
this kind of thing
doesn't exist. That
there's no kind of split
in society, or racism
that goes on here, and
that's simply not true."
City police say they're
investigating the
vandalism as a hate
crime, with help from
federal officials. They
wouldn't give any
further details.
At the Live Desk.

NEW THIS MORNING...
LEXINGTON POLICE
SAY A MAN IS
RECOVERING AFTER
BEING STABBED
DURING A BAR FIGHT.
IT HAPPENED JUST
BEFORE ONE... AT THE
PADDOCK BAR ON
SOUTH LIMESTONE...
NEAR THE U-K
CAMPUS.
INVESTIGATORS
BELIEVE IT STARTED
AFTER A FIGHT BROKE
OUT INSIDE THE BAR...
THEN SPILLED
OUTSIDE.
AT SOME POINT
DURING THE BRAWL,
POLICE SAY A MAN
WAS STABBED.
WITNESSES COULDN'T
PROVIDE A NAME...
BUT THEY TOLD
POLICE THE SUSPECT
IS A MAN WHO
FREQUENTLY VISITS
THAT BAR.
POLICE SEARCHED
THE AREA FOLLOWING
THE STABBING, BUT
WERE NOT ABLE
LOCATE THE SUSPECT.
AS FOR THE VICTIM...
POLICE SAY HE WAS
TAKEN TO THE
HOSPITAL WITH
NON-LIFE
THREATENING
INJURIES.
WE ARE CONTINUING
TO TRACK A
DEVELOPING STORY
OUT OF OWSLEY
COUNTY THIS
MORNING.
STATE POLICE SAY
ONE PERSON WAS
'SERIOUSLY' INJURED...
AFTER BEING HIT BY A
CAR. IT
HAPPENED AROUND
10 LAST NIGHT.
POLICE STILL HAVE
'NOT' TOLD US WHICH
ROAD THE CRASH
HAPPENED.
THEY SAY THEY'RE
STILL TRYING TO
FIGURE OUT WHAT
LED UP TO IT.
FIREFIGHTERS WERE
BUSY INTO THE EARLY
MORNING HOURS FOR
A FIRE... AT JENNY
WILEY STATE RESORT
PARK IN FLOYD
COUNTY. THE
FIRE WAS REPORTED
IN THE DINING AREA
OF THE MAY LODGE.
AT THIS TIME, WE
DON'T KNOW HOW
MUCH DAMAGE THE
FIRE CAUSED.
WE ARE STILL TRYING
TO GATHER MORE
DETAILS FROM FIRE
OFFICIALS.
IT'S NOW BEEN A
TOPIC OF DISCUSSION
FOR YEARS...
BUT WE COULD SOON
SEE NEW
DEVELOPMENTS IN
THE CENTREPOINTE
PROJECT.
A DEADLINE PUT IN
PLACE BY THE CITY OF
LEXINGTON IS SET TO
EXPIRE TODAY.
BUT DEVELOPERS SAY
WE CAN EXPECT A
WORK TO BEGIN AS
EARLY AS THIS
MORNING.
WKYT'S MIKE BEIER
JOINS US LIVE WITH
THE DETAILS.
KENTUCKY
continued at the site.
An email Webb
received last night
from Hunt
Construction said that
reinforcing bars, or
rebar, had been
installed on several of
the columns for the
parking garage and
that the construction
company should start
pouring concrete for
those columns as soon
as this morning.
Now, as you can see
there are still many
questions and concerns
with this project. One
thing is certain though..
no public money has
been spent on
CentrePointe as its a
private development
on private land.
KENTUCKY
LAWMAKERS IN THE
HOUSE AND SENATE
STILL HAVE 'NOT'
REACHED AN
AGREEMENT... ON A
STATE BUDGET.
MEMBERS OF THE
BUDGET CONFERENCE
MET ALL DAY
YESTERDAY... BUT
BROKE OFF TALKS
LATE LAST NIGHT.
PARTY LEADERS ARE
AT ODDS OVER
SPENDING
CUTS...INCLUDING TO
STATE COLLEGES AND
UNIVERSITIES...AS
WELL AS HOW TO FIX
THE STATE'S PENSION
PROBLEM.
LEADERS OF BOTH
BRANCHES SAY THEY
HOPE TO HAVE A
COMPROMISE BY
TOMORROW.
BUT WITH TIME
RUNNING OUT... THE
LAST DAY OF THIS
SESSION NOW
DEPENDS WHETHER
AN AGREEMENT CAN
BE REACHED WITHIN
THE NEXT DAY.
"if we don't have a
budget resolution by
noon thursday,
because it takes
aproximately thirty
hours to generate a
document, the
schedule will remain as
is"
THE LAST DAY OF THE
LEGISLATIVE SESSION
IS CURRENTLY
SCHEDULED FOR APRIL
12TH. BUT IF AN
AGREEMENT IS
REACHED BY
TOMORROW... THE
LAST DAY COULD BE
MOVED TO APRIL
15TH... WHICH WOULD
ALLOW BOTH PARTY'S
THE ABILITY TO
OVERRIDE ANY
VETO'S.
IF A BUDGET ISN'T
PASSED, GOVERNOR
BEVIN WILL HAVE TO
CALL A SPECIAL
SESSION TO PASS
ONE, BEFORE JULY
FIRST.
THE STATE SENATE
HAS PASSED A BILL...
THAT WOULD ALLOW
SOME NON-VIOLENT
FELONS... TO HAVE
THEIR CRIMINAL
RECORDS ERASED.
THE BILL WOULD
'NOT' APPLY TO
ANYONE CONVICTED
OF A VIOLENT CRIME...
OR A SEX OFFENSE.
A PRIOR VERSION OF
THE BILL PASSED THE
HOUSE... BUT THE
SENATE'S VERSION
WOULD MAKE
OFFENDERS WAIT
FIVE-YEARS... BEFORE
THEY COULD HAVE
RECORDS ERASED.
THE SENATE'S
VERSION NOW MOVES
ONTO THE HOUSE FOR
CONSIDERATION.
FAMILY MEMBERS SAY
IT COULD BE NEXT
WEEK... BEFORE THE
REMAINS OF A
LEXINGTON NATIVE,
KILLED IN THE
BRUSSELS ATTACKS...
CAN RETURN HOME.
STEPHANIE SHULTS
AND HER HUSBAND,
JUSTIN, DIED AT THE
BRUSSELS AIRPORT.
HER AUNT SAYS
ADDITIONAL
FORENSICS ARE BEING
DONE ON THE
REMAINS.
SHE SAYS, HER
FAMILY WILL NOT BE
HAVING A FUNERAL
FOR HER UNTIL HER
BODY IS BACK IN THE
UNITED STATES.
FAMILY MEMBERS
ALSO SAY
STEPHANIE'S MOTHER,
CAROLYN.. WHO WAS
WITH THE COUPLE AT
THE AIRPORT AT THE
TIME OF THE
ATTACKS.. HAS
RETURNED HOME TO
LEXINGTON.
WE'VE LEARNED A
BENEFIT RAISED
'THOUSANDS' OF
DOLLARS... TO HELP
REBUILD AN HISTORIC
KENTUCKY STORE.
FIRE DESTROYED THE
RABBIT HASH
GENERAL STORE IN
BOONE COUNTY LAST
MONTH. THE
STORE HAD BEEN
OPEN... SINCE THE
18-30'S.
OVER THE WEEKEND...
THE "RABBIT HASH
BASH" RAISED MONEY
FOR THE RABBIT HASH
HISTORICAL SOCIETY...
TO REBUILD THE
STORE.
YESTERDAY...
ORGANIZERS
PRESENTED THE
SOCIETY... WITH A
CHECK OF MORE
THAN 11-THOUSAND
DOLLARS.
WKYT THIS MORNING

THANKS TO THE
GENEROSITY OF
OTHERS.
AMANDA
BRUMBAUGH
SUFFERED FROM BAD
EAR INFECTIONS
WHEN SHE WAS
YOUNGER. WHILE
SHE RECEIVED
MEDICAL ATTENTION...
AMANDA SAYS THE
INFECTIONS WEREN'T
TREATED CORRECTLY
AND HER INNER EAR
EVENTUALLY
COLLAPSED.
BECAUSE HER
INSURANCE DOESN'T
COVER HEARING
AIDS... AND SHE CAN'T
AFFORD THEM
HERSELF... AMANDA
HAS SPENT MUCH OF
HEAR LIFE WITHOUT
HEARING.
BUT THANKS TO THE
HEARING SPECIALIST'S
AT "MIRACLE-EAR"...
HER LIFE CHANGED
EARLIER THIS WEEK.
AFTER HEARING
AMANDA'S STORY...
THE ORGANIZATION
GAVE HER A FREE PAIR
OF HEARING AIDS
WITH FREE LIFETIME

AMANDA SAYS HER
LIFE HAS CHANGED
BECAUSE OF THE
HEARING AIDS.
AND SHE SAYS THE
BEST PART IS BEING
ABLE TO HEAR HER
FAMILY AGAIN!

chicago...
kentucky has four
players n the game...
And they are making a
sales pitch to one of
the other top players in
the country...
lee k. Howard reports
from chicago...
Hello and welcome to
chicago where
kentucky already has
four future wildcats
here in chicago this
week for the
mcdonalds all american
game. That's more than
any other school, but
those four hope to
make that number
grow to five before
they leave the windy
city.
Marquse bolden is the
highest rated player
still uncommitted in
the 2016 class and he's
got his school choices
down to kentucky,

last few days bolden
has heard the sales
pitch from the uk
commits.
Fox "it's not even this
week, I stay on him. Me
and marquise we talk
almost daily and it's
not always about
basketball or recruiting.
We are friends so but
somethings I'll just
sneak it in there. This
week I've been telling
him. I've been in his ear
all week.
Bolden says potentially
joining this uk class
could be great.
Bolden "fox and malik
they can both run the
1-2 and then playing
with sacha and bam in
the front court, that's a
big time help with the
aggressiveness of both
of them players. I just
like how aggressive
and how versatile they
are."
bolden plans to make a
decision before his
18th birthday in mid
april. At the united
