Ring, wedding ring, pendant, necklace, whatever the item of jewellery, there are several stages involved in production.
The initial idea for the creation of an item of jewellery are always undertaken on paper before then being transposed onto computer in 3D.
The 3D computerised representation is then transferred to a machine
which is used to produce the successive micro-layers of wax which will be used as models to form the final piece of jewellery.
Another method consists of creating a metal template which will then be coated in rubber so as to form a mould.
This mould will then be cut into two sections before being peeled away so as to reveal the metallic centre. All that remains in the rubber is the outline of the model.
This will then allow the wax to be injected into the template which can then be used to create the metal for smelting.
Various subsequent modifications can then be undertaken directly on the waxes to be used for smelting.
Here you can see for instance the re-sizing of a ring.
The size of the ring is being modified in order to fit the client's finger.
The waxes are then attached to a tree structure which is called a 'wax tree'.
Once attached, the trees can then be placed into the metal container.
This step will allow for a plaster mould to be created to house the smelted metal.
