Chrysty Sturdivant: What's important is that as neonatal therapists and as neonatal nurses is that we
impart knowledge in our workshop about what the parent's role are,
what their job is.
In order to do that we want to engage the participant in the workshop
to really step into how the parents must feel about being separated from
their baby. So our job
is to facilitate parents
to be with their baby that’s it. That’s their job as a parent and the baby job is to
come together with their parent and that's what we talk about with families.
If you go through your nursery
and you see a baby that
has the stress signals that we just went over you can ask the nurse if “I can just
be with that baby.” Now if the parents are there
you're going to want to teach parents how to do it. Our goal is always that the family
is a part.
Our goal is get the family with the baby, that's our goal.
Victoria Coats: Being in the N.I.C.U. there is a lot
of specialization needed and there’s not a lot out there to get it.
So courses like this are very valuable for us, especially when they are taught by the best in our field.
So we take every opportunity we can get a better education so we can help the babies and their families.
Chrysty Sturdivant: I’m going to show you how you can touch your baby.
