\uc0舲 舲 \fs26 \cf0 Around 6,000 tonnes of garbage
are piling up Wednesday in the streets of Seville, Spain as a strike by the workers
of the municipal street cleaning company Lipasam enters its 10th day.
\fs24 \cf3 \ \
\uc0舲 \fs26 \cf0 The workers are protesting against
the city\'92s attempt to lower their pay by 5% while increasing working hours. (Video

\uc0舲 \fs26 \cf0 \'c1ngel Gallego Morales, the president
of the economic and social council of Andalusia, which is responsible for the mediation between
the government and the unions, commented on the situation:
\f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 舲 \f0\b\fs26 \'93It\'92s clear that striking
can have a much larger impact when it concerns something as visible to citizens as garbage
... We can only hope that this will soon end, even if there is no sign of any willingness
to compromise right now.\'94 \b0 (Via {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2274467/Striking-rubbish-collectors-cause-stink-Seville-letting-6-000-tons-waste-pile-citys-streets.html#axzz2K9fqQgkD"}}{\fldrslt

\fs26 \cf0 But part of the city is being spared. In order to comply with Spanish Employment
law, 30 percent of the garbage is still being collected in Seville.

a threat to human health. \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 舲
\f0\fs26 The city council\'92s proposition is part of a larger series of austerity measures
in the country, as the country is going through a difficult economic crisis, with unemployment
rates topping 25%. (Video via {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21348168"}}{\fldrslt

\fs26 \cf0 And Seville\'92s garbage collectors are not the first to protest. Other garbage
strikes have taken place in Spanish cities Jerez de la Frontera and Granada over the
past 3 months. \fs24 \cf3 \

as more than a 100 containers were set on fire. Antonio Bazom, the president of the
workers committee of Lipasam, has denied responsibility. \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 舲
\f0\fs26 The strike could have a major impact on the historic city\'92s tourism if no resolution
is found quickly. \fs24 \cf3 \
