For years, psychologist, Dr. Tamika Scott
had made a career out of helping others.
As a licensed psychologist,
my specialty was helping people.
Preaching and teaching about following your dreams, being your own person,
Announcer: Despite Tamika's goodwill towards others,
She was faced with several tragedies
in her personal life.
I had a daughter, who, um, died.
All of the stress that I was going through,
I was not really
paying attention to my health.
I became very ill.
After the second time in the hospital,
I had a lot of time to think about
what I didn't get to do in life.
I wanted to open a jazz club.
I really have an appreciation for jazz,
good food, and great entertainment
and just-- That that'd be a mass therapy session.
Announcer: In 2014, Tamika opened Jazz Katz,
bringing in her parents,
to help cover her lack of business experience.
Yeah. This is a mess.
I've worked for several Fortune 500 companies,
as a manager.
So, Tamika asked me to give a managerial touch.
Yes, sir.
But let me show you guys
where your space is gonna be tonight.
Well, I had a sense of background
working with people,
and bringing that to this venue,
was a easy match.
Announcer: Jazz Katz took off,
and was an immediate success with the locals.
Business was great.
We were making about $30,000 a month.
Announcer: Unfortunately, Tamika's attitude
towards hiring employees
was geared more towards helping them
than her business.
You wanna feed your kids, right?
woman: Tamika's a friend of mine,
so I was just kinda thrown back here.
Get the food out,
'cause it's helping me keep food on my own table at home.
Announcer: Soon, the staff's inexperience...
Did she send it back?
- Yeah, she's-- - Okay, so you should have never sent it out there.
You should have just said, "We don't have it right now."
- Announcer: ...drove customers away. - I had a bartender
that didn't know what they were doing.
They sent them back. They said they don't taste right.
No, they sent them back
because they're not in the right glass.
There was problems with just having qualified people.
What is this?
There can't be pomegranate and wild berry.
They're different.
Announcer: As business struggled to recover,
Tamika and her mother disagreed on how to rectify
the problems with their staff.
Tamika and Karen did not see eye-to-eye.
And I'm in the middle of it.
So-- sometimes.
- When I say that-- - But not-- not months after months, after months--
- It's not-- - ...of just failing.
I'm too soft and they're too hard.
We got-- We need the whole order.
They're getting very upset.
She kind of coddles the staff too much.
Some people just don't have the talent.
My mom has a quick temper.
And they need to go right now.
You don't have the personality to actually run it.
And you think you do?
I know.
Announcer: Now, Jazz Katz is losing $8,000 a month,
and Tamika is only one month
from calling time's up on this therapy session.
I'm a single mom of three.
I've exhausted all of my savings.
And my kids are definitely entangled
in this.
If we cannot get it going,
there will be nothing left.
I have to be successful.
Announcer: Out of time, and out of options,
Tamika has agreed to pull back the doors,
bust open the books to make a call for help
to "Bar Rescue."
