so have you ever had that experience where you're feeling really crummy one
day like physically maybe maybe you had a little bit too much to drink the night
before or you're sick or just overworked and tired and then suddenly you find
yourself kind of questioning everything in terms of your life like what am I
doing am I really going to succeed in this is my relationship totally mess up
like whatever it is you start kind of second-guessing everything and this
video that's what we're going to cover is why that happens and the danger of
letting that happen because until now you might not have even realized a
correlation between how you're feeling physically and then second-guessing
yourself or making perhaps stupid life decisions so to begin with this we got
to look at a little bit of history I know I know boring but it's not that
boring it's pretty cool so traditionally psychologists assume
that the brain-body connection was sort of one way you felt certain things in
your head like you were happy and then you would smile right you felt really
confident and then you would walk upright and like feel it feel really
confident sorry you would walk upright because you felt really confident right
it was a one-way track but they have since found that this is totally false
and it's actually a two-way dynamic so for example one of the kind of more
cliche studies around this looks at smiling that can actually make you happy
so if you just smile and act like you're happy your brain will sort of click in
and say wait a minute why am i smiling am i crazy or am i
happy and I just sort of missed it like my body picked up something I didn't
know and it will actually change your brain chemistry and you'll start feeling
happier so there's a two-way street between your brain and your body
this is really important because how you then treat your body and use your body
is going to have a big impact on your mind so I'm going to do other videos on
this topic of how you can kind of use this like some tricks with this in terms
of controlling your state and making yourself feel good and all that kind of
stuff but in terms of this video I want to talk about the two-way relationship
between when you're feeling really down and then second-guessing yourself or
making kind of bad choices or that sort of thing
the example that made it really clear for me and I wasn't joking at the
beginning in the video is waking up and being really
hungover maybe I'm just an old man now maybe it was easier when I was younger
but hangovers kick my *** a bit right so I've had this experience on a few
different days enough to put two and two together and realize this correlation
and then this led me to kind of thinking about the rest of this and how it can
affect us so what I found is that when I would go out and come home quite
hungover I would end up feeling really bad the next day not just physically but
emotionally and and part of this would come out of like a guilt or I you know
why did I get so drunk or why did I you know go out late when I could have been
working or doing something else more productive but a lot of it I realized is
just that being hungover your body feels bad alcohol withdrawal causes anxiety so
it causes these physical sensations of feeling like anxiety anxiety leads to
lowering your confidence that leads to kind of self-doubt and all these other
feelings so what ended up happening I found on these days is I would often end
up kind of spiraling we're by the end of the Sunday I would be questioning like
what am I doing with my life should I like is my business in the right
direction am i doing the wrong thing maybe I should be this isn't that like
and what I realized is is none of these concerns were valid these were concerns
created out of a physical state so the poor physical state came first my body
was not in great shape that leads to a brain that is not in great shape that is
not able to think properly that does not maybe have the proper balance of
chemicals to you know keep you feeling level all that sort of stuff and then
that created the thoughts about like second-guessing myself should I be doing
this questioning you know if I was on track or beating myself up over things
so this is really I think important thing to to think about because if we're
having a negative physical state create these thoughts essentially in her head
right where we then start to question ourselves and all that that can lead to
a lot of a rational perhaps change in the direction the reason I'm actually
filming this video today is a comment I just read on one of the YouTube videos
or someone was asking vote essentially second-guessing
themselves and changing direction and it got me thinking about this topic about
basically when you're not at your physical best then you're very likely to
end up changing direction or do it the very least the lack the confidence to
sort of keep going in moments of doubt right and push yourself forward and all
that so how do you apply this how you know can you actually make this valuable
in your life first thing for me well it's a very first basic thing was I have
a rule if I I try not to drink heavy amounts too often but my girlfriend is a
little younger and likes to drink heavy amounts and okay so do a lot of my
friends and so from time to time in order to maintain social relationships
that's the only reason I I will indulge and what I've done now is those days so
if I know that I'm going to go out and drink a lot that I'll make sure that the
next day I don't plan to work I don't have anything scheduled and I will also
use it as like a like Netflix day or just go out and kind of sightsee relax
like I won't let myself think about work so that's actually my rule is that if
I'm sick actually sick or if I'm hungover that I will not think about my
business or kind of my life direction or my future or evaluate how I'm doing or
any of that kind of stuff because those thoughts can get out of control if you
if you have a brain like mine and you're you're not in the greatest state so
that's the first thing my rule is if I'm not in a great state of mind I don't you
know think about business planning and all that kind of stuff along that note
one of the things that's helped me over time and this might answer questions
kind of a common theme with a lot of questions I get is that in terms of like
business planning and think about thinking about like my life direction I
try to really limit that to light one day a month maybe and have it a day like
a dedicated day or a day like a Sunday where I'll be really relaxed rather than
do it all the time because I used to do it all the time and it's only a negative
from that you're always second-guessing yourself and so what I found really
helpful is to have a plan and just follow it and not think about it very
often but anyhow so that's the first take away is don't kind of think about
your life or plans when you're not in a good
headspace the second thing is then to proactively try to put yourself in a
better headspace more and more right and this is why it's been so proven that
things like exercise spending time with friends and family like going out for
dinners with friends things like meditation these sorts of positive brain
I don't exercises like things that make you basically feel good that's it are
really worth doing because they will have compounding effects in terms of how
you think so when I say feel-good I would not encourage you to do things
like eating ice cream because that will make you feel good short-term and then
bad after but things that have kind of a longer-term effect so this would be like
I said friends exercise brain activities like meditation or things like that new
yoga sex is a good one it releases a buttload of not literally a buttload but
you know lots of good chemicals for you to make you feel good other things that
I found I don't do this often anymore but I used to want try to watch like a
one of those really inspiring movies or just an emotional movie like Braveheart
notorious I mean these are the best movies of all time obviously movies like
that that will even though they die at the end have kind of an inspiring feel
to them and I found that those positive feelings actually do carry over into
real life as well so that's going to my take away for this video something I
like to remind myself of is I'm not feeling the best like and it can be like
I said from from being sick or hungover something but it can also just be like
you have off days right we all have bad days
maybe you get in a fight with your partner or someone in your business or
friend maybe there's another issue like that comes up you get really frustrated
with your neighbor or something like that
anytime that happens when you're just not in a good headspace I really
encourage you not to do kind of big picture planning stuff things like that
so don't do planning when you're feeling off and do whatever you can to feel
better have basically more days where you're feeling really great because
that's generally going to improve your thinking and that sort of thing thank
you for watching this video if you enjoyed it and you're not already to
