when you say to somebody there are twelve thousand homicides in america
every year
that's a large number this statistic is large but it doesn't resonate with
people but when you draw that
eight blocks long fifty feet wide that creates
a reality due to my certain sort of
said have circumstances having my life touched by ***
is unusual and have people
all different backgrounds all different cultures
I'm whose whose
how do I say this
who recognizing and sort of making ***
part of their language like really looking
at the horror of it really looking at how
you know the person that dies it doesn't the *** doesn't stop with the person
that dies and I lived my life
really outside of you know murders awful that's terrible we all know that
but until it touches your life specifically and intimately
you no one has any idea what thats
Arcadia is a place that brings
all kinds of people from all over the world together
to learn and engage in an education that is global
and this event does the same thing
I mean we've got one of our students is from Norway we've gotten
on feedback from people in Canada that I used to work with that are trying to do
similar types events there
so there's kind of a of
global outreach and sort of
local awareness that feet is a feels like a feedback
exam you know think globally act locally and so this is an opportunity for people
from all over
who aren't just from Philadelphia aren't just from downtown that on Arcadia to come out
and participate in the event what I am really interested in
is really just finding ways that we as a world community
can really co exist and the most peaceful way
levy is much conflict is possible or at least to transform
that conflict into something positive Everyone of these
outlines you see on the ground is something actually happen in this
country at some point so
the fact that putting it all together just really makes a market I've how
help be given magnitude this problem is in our country
in the IPCR program in particular the grad students
you know part of part of what their mission is in the graduate program
is
is to apply theory and actually engage in the world and they do that through
internships and they do that through going
I'm study away experiences whether whole idea behind it
is to take what they learn in the classroom applied outside
and getting the undergraduates involved on gives them the same kinda on
experience and understanding that when you actually take what you're learning
in the classroom and apply it outside to get the opportunity to
change things you really can feel like the the work you're doing makes a
difference in the world
