Hi, I'm Brian Lemon Cheif Executive Officer of Lakeridge Health.
Lakeridge Health is a very large community hospital, it's a community hospital network.
We cover the eastern part of durham region with quite a range of
services. We have put a great deal of effort on developing education programs,
in fact we have
over a thousand students that go through our facilities for clinical
placement and training.
We also do a lot of research collaboration with universities.
Hi, I'm M.J. Macgraw, Mary Jean by some.
and I work in the faculty of health sciences, but more specifically in nursing.
One of the things that I think is really unique about this place is that it's like a
family. We have a collaborative program and I've worked in collaborative programs before, but
here you actually
work side by side with the people that you are in collaboration with.
We're very pleased that the arrangements we've been able to strike with the university for
joint recruitment and positions and shared staff, we have
a quite a number of nurses who are
shared. There are faculty members at UOIT and nursing leaders at Lakeridge Health.
The other advantage working in a collaboraton is that we have an opportunity to work with a
whole lot of other health professional groups that you don't necessarily see in
universities and that really enriches the student's experience
because they get to learn with people who are he in other health related programs
and they also get to do community service for some of those students
and get to sit in on interdisciplinary courses and in nursing that's
I think a real advantage.
A number of years ago at Lakeridge we recognized a
strong desire in our staff
to conduct research.
Many of them interested in contributing to knowledge and finding better
ways of providing health care.
We developed the research institute at Lakeridge Health.
Today, we've got a very impressive list of research projects that have been undertaken. We have found
some fairly major research grants
and we have a close working relationship with the university
in order to help foster research.
We support a wide range of clinical placements. The largest single one of
course is nursing. However we train quite a range of physicians from
physiotherapist, occupational therapist, pharmacists
and so forth.
so we are certainly are in cord at our management team recognized fully the
need to train the next generation of health care professionals and we have
definitely allocated resources time and effort to
develop that part of our mission.
