Hello.
Welcome to the second day of VEDA.
Today I'm going to tell you a bit about myself, because I don't really have a channel introduction
yet.
There will be one in the future, but for now this is what you'll have to make do with.
So first of my name.
My name is Friso, but in China I have taken the name 金马 (jīn mǎ).
The reason for that is that the first time I came to China I had a teacher that was teaching
me calligraphy and he had some trouble with my name.
So, he asked me for my Chinese name and I had to decide one by myself, so what I basically
did was I went to Wikipedia I looked up what year I was born in according to the Chinese
zodiac and I took that as my name.
And, it just kinda stuck.
Currently I'm studying at BLCU, but before that I studied Software Engineering at The
Hague University.
During my study in The Hague I had an internship in Xiamen and that's where my interest in
China came from.
At first I was mainly interested because a lot of Dutch companies are starting to build
relationships with China and I thought that if I knew Chinese and had some experience
working in China I would have better job opportunities.
But, after coming to China I really fell in love with the people, the language, the culture
and I wanted to know more about it, so during a free minor I came to China again to learn
some Chinese.
Now that I graduated from The Hague University I came to China again to learn more Chinese
and I hope that I can do a second Bachelor with regards to Chinese language and culture.
There are a lot of things that I like about China.
The main thing is the language.
It's very different from Dutch and English and other western languages and I find it
very interesting and challenging to learn it.
Especially the tones and the characters.
I'll talk a bit more in other videos during VEDA about learning Chinese and then I'll
tell you a bit more about what I find interesting about it.
I also really like the painting styles, especially 水墨画, which means ink wash painting.
If you don't know what it is, you should check it out. It's very beautiful.
I don't know any western paintings to compare it to, so you'll just have to check it out
yourself.
I also really like the calligraphy, which goes hand in hand with 水墨画 sometimes.
I also really like the game 围棋, in western countries it's known by it's Japanese name,
Go.
I like the music, which is one of the reasons why I use music to translate and practice
my Chinese.
And of course I also like the martial arts and I've been very fortunate because I found
a really great teacher that teaches Bajiquan and I'll make another video about that as
well here.
That was a short introduction about me.
If you have any questions just post them in the comments and at the end of VEDA I will
answer any questions you may have.
Also remember to check out effyeahveda.tumblr.com I'll post a link in the description.
It's run by my friend Jenny and it can help introduce other VEDAers.
Thank you for watching and I'll see you tomorrow.
Bye.
