Potterthon 1 The Sorcerers stone
By and With Johan Malmsten
Hm... So now I've seen the first film. And I'll have to admit, it didn't suck.
Not exactly fantastic but rather ok.
The setup was really good. Reminded me of The Never Ending Story,
Charlie & the Choclate Factory and Princess Bride For some reason...
But that's good! Then on the way to Hogwarts something happened
Firstly, the INSUFFERABLE Hermione! I really don't like Hermione.
Secondly, the fascination around Harry Potter That part that he's some kind of WUNDERKIND, eh...
Or... ehhh... Gods gift to the Witches
I guess they are witches, since they're using sticks, and not real magic staffs.
Like the real mages uses. Like... Merlin... I think...
maybe... But anyways. In that regard I could understand Snape...
And then Hogwarts, I hate schools in movies. Columbus did what he could to make it bearable, I think.
But it's all there. The snobbish spiteful bully the bully-victim, the teachers noone likes,
The love interest. Hermione. I really don't like Hermione...
Eh, well. etc etc But you know what I was missing?
A story, A goal to reach. Something to keep my interest until the credits.
Oh, well, there was the Sorcerers Stone I guess. That thingamajigg that's only mentioned 1:45h into the movie
After an unnecessary subplot about Quidditch By the way, Quidditch really makes no sense.
After Blackbeard both got his dragon and lost it. Within five minutes.
After a lot of other stuff we could have cut out and noone would have missed it. Except for the fans of course, but they're never pleased...
Oh, and I must have missed some detail in this 2 and 40 hour long school-flick Why doesn't Harry say anything to the teachers?
Just think of the help he could have gotten! Or if he at least could have mentioned the dangers coming.
But oh, no. Instead we sneak around, getting detensions punishments, etc,etc,etc...
And doing our best to lead an evil-doer with a invisibility cloak straight to the Sorcerers Stone.
And about that cloak. I think JK Rowling is a fan of Astrid Lindgren.
Because it wasn't just the cloak, but also that whole thing about the Dark Knight Kato...
Eh, I mean Voldemort. Or that whole finale, where Voldemort
STOP THAT!
Good! ... and Potter almost word by word repeats The Empire Strikes Back
Then there was the flow of time, because why did it feel like the story took place over two weeks?
When I'm reminded that it takes a whole year?
Damn, just think of all those unicorns that must have died just because they wouldn't ask for help.
I mean, Potter can't always rely on his Deus Ex Machina sending him the things he need in the right moment.
And the ending... It was ***!
And about that. Why was it so necessary to bring the owl?
