A couple of weeks ago, Andy and I were out for dinner and our waitress pulled me aside.
"Governor," she said, "keep fighting for Rhode Island Promise Scholarships.
It's gonna change people's lives."
She told me her story--she started college at RIC, full time.
She took out loans and was working full time to pay for it.
After about a year and a half, she dropped out because she couldn't afford it.
Now, all she has is a pile of debt and no degree.
I hear stories like this every day from people all across our state--parents who are worried
about paying for their kids' college, and business owners, who want to hire Rhode Islanders
but they can't find people with the right skills and education.
Rhode Island Promise is about you--hardworking, middle-class Rhode Islanders who just want
a shot to compete.
Rhode Island Promise is my top priority because you're my top priority.
I'm gonna keep fighting to get it done.
